01.面包上的黄油
明火被扑灭。
及川在警戒线外来回踱步，却始终不见远处有人影出现。身旁的餐厅经理正单手在胸前画十字，嘴里用西班牙语念着“耶稣保佑我”，舌头快要弹飞天灵盖。
“Jerico，能暂时闭上你的嘴吗？”及川不耐烦地揉了揉耳朵。
“哦，上帝……”男人忽然双手合十，“我是在为Vabo祈祷。”
Vabo是及川养的一只纯种安哥拉猫，脾气不好，见谁都抓。
“OH.MY.GOD，”经理忽然停下了动作，“彻，瞧瞧是谁出来了。”
及川没瞎，刚才那个进火灾现场的消防员身高至少一米九，谢天谢地他怀里还抱着一只猫。
平日里娇生惯养的Vabo大小姐什么时候受过这种委屈，毛被熏得黑黑的，似乎还受了伤。
它此刻把头埋在消防员胸口，尾巴有气无力地晃着，委屈得不行，谁叫都不理。
“麻烦确认一下猫的情况。”低沉的男声响起。
“啊，”及川立刻反应过来，上前想要接过自己黑乎乎的宝贝，“谢谢，辛苦你了。”
“不客气，”男人没撒手，他补充道，“或许你现在该跟他们回消防站接受火灾调查，猫暂时交给我吧，我会带它去宠物医院。”
“可是……”及川仍然不放心，他伸手碰了碰猫的后背，没有收到回应，“好吧，它不理我，那就先麻烦你了。”
男人点头，然后转身向不远处的消防车走去。同事见他抱着一只猫，嘴上不免调侃两句，及川听不清他们谈话的内容，只隐约捕捉到“若利”、“小动物”这样的词汇。
失火原因暂定为电路短路，因为现场发现了一截被烧焦的电线。但及川显然不接受这样的结果，他很确定自己关闭了电闸。
“Blue Hill，餐厅，圣瑟西大街1号，位置不错，”负责火灾调查的人一边核对失火地点的信息，一边自言自语，“你说你是老板？”
“是，”及川有气无力地回答，“我偶尔会在餐厅留宿，所以为自己准备了一个房间。”
“平时偶尔会住在餐厅，也就是那间屋子里，”调查员做着记录，“但实际上这是由其中一间仓库改造的，仓库之间并不相连……呃，那餐厅的仓库够用吗？”
“当然够用了，”及川忍不住在心里翻白眼，“仓库只是临时用来储存一些脱水制品和调味品的，我们可不会用隔夜的食材。”
“那餐厅和仓库不是一个电闸？”那人又问。
“分开的，”及川说，“白天没人会进仓库，每天营业前我都会检查一遍。”
“那你的猫怎么会在这里？”
“我原本打算今天带它去宠物店洗澡的。”
好吧，这么看的确不像是及川自己疏忽大意。
调查员合上本子又问了几个问题，及川一一作答后便被允许离开。
可是猫和那个不见踪影的消防员还没有任何消息。
“可以再让我见一下刚才现场的消防员吗？”及川问。
“见他们是为了……？”调查员不解。
“他们带走了我的猫。”及川眼神不善，他只想快点离开这个鬼地方。
“你跟我过来吧。”
及川认得那个和男人交谈过的同事，对方很显然也猜到他的来意。
“我问问他。”那人指了指自己的手机。
“嗯，麻烦了。”及川在一旁等。
“若利让你先回去，”那人电话挂得很快，“他说会把猫送过去。”
“谢谢，”及川是发自内心的，“那我先走了。”
及川一走，值班室立刻响起一阵欢快且不可思议的惊呼声。
“哎，”刚才打电话的小子兴奋地挥着手，“猛料啊！”
“你刚才给谁打了电话？”另一个人问道，“若利吗？说起来他人呢？”
“他带着刚才那位老板的猫去医院了——”
“猫？若利不是猫毛过敏吗？”
一瞬间话题全都围绕着牛岛展开，他作为圣瑟西区消防站最年轻的消防员，是备受前辈们关注的对象。当然，也包括八卦的对象。
“他本来就很喜欢那间餐厅嘛。”
“是啊，半年前得知餐厅要搬到圣瑟西大街后这小子兴奋了整整一周时间！”
“不过他好像还没打听到主厨是谁啊？”
“所以是打算从老板下手了吗？啧啧啧……”
“这么神秘？说得我都想去尝尝到底有多好吃了。”
“下次推新菜单的时候你让若利带上你呗——”
牛岛推门进来时，正好听见有人说他是个坏小子，开玩笑的那种。
“我好像又成为值班室的焦点了，但很可惜暂时还不能参与你们的聊天。”
“若利啊，”有同事见牛岛进来，问道，“你怎么衣服都没换就去宠物医院了？”
“所以得回来换掉再去餐厅，”牛岛说，“帮我照看一下猫，它不能跟我一起进更衣室。”
牛岛压根没等有人答应，便直接将猫咪放在了离自己最近那个人的怀里，转身推门离开时还不忘补充一句“它很乖的”。
很乖？
好吧。在牛岛换衣服这短暂的几分钟时间里，它抓伤了三个人的手臂，撞倒了桌子上两个水杯，挠坏了值班室里唯一的单人沙发（真皮的）。
“我觉得这只猫至少应该承担95%的损失，”其中一位被抓伤的倒霉蛋满脸严肃地算着账，“至于剩下那5%，若利说什么也得请我们去Blue Hill吃饭了。”
“但这95%是否要通知餐厅老板……”另一位倒霉蛋说，“谁去？”
所有人齐刷刷将目光锁定在值班室大门上，只要牛岛推门……他就会发现一屋子人仿佛审视纵火犯一样看着自己。
牛岛微微皱了下眉。
但紧接着他便知道眼下这情况是为什么了。
“我很抱歉。”牛岛说。
“这不是你的错，只是这些损失……”
“我会赔偿的。”
“应该由猫的主人来赔偿。”
“再说吧，”牛岛弯腰抱起安安静静趴在地上的猫，“我先把它送回去。”
此时已经过了晚饭时间。
牛岛承认自己把猫送回餐厅是有一些私心的，他想要老板欠他个人情。作为交换，他会拜托老板让他见见Blue Hill的主厨，如果这可行的话。
牛岛这份执着并不是空穴来风。
小时候误把母亲珍藏的红酒倒进烧着火的锅里，阴差阳错将一份咖喱牛肉变成不怎么地道的红酒煮牛肉。父亲夸他有做菜的天赋，他在亲自品尝自己做的菜之前，也是这么认为的。
做菜的天赋是没有了，吃菜的天赋倒有一点。
隔行如隔山，但牛岛坚信这句话不会成为自己与食物间的阻拦。他极其擅长从一道菜中快速分辨出食材和香料的种类，他认为自己是一名满分的理论派。
在Blue Hill搬到圣瑟西大街前，牛岛便已经是那里的常客。餐厅门上挂着“Closed”的牌子，但没关实，淡淡的暖光从缝隙里透出，在地面上形成一道扇形的光影，融浸在傍晚深蓝色天空的倒影中。
像日落一样，牛岛想。
晨间新闻播报今日会有粉色晚霞，牛岛因为执行任务而错过的遗憾在此刻烟消云散。Blue Hill补偿了他另一场独一无二的日落，比起粉色晚霞，橙色好像也不错。
推门声音不大，但在安静的餐厅里显得尤为突出。
“抱歉，我们已经不营业——”及川正拿着笔在接待台计算今天的损失，抬头便看见自己的猫，以及一张熟悉的面孔，“是你啊。”
“那会儿赶时间，没来得及说明身份，”牛岛关上门，再轻轻把猫放下，“知道起火地点是这里时我也很紧张。”
“谢谢你把它救出来，”及川放下笔，“吃晚饭了吗？”
“没有。”牛岛如实回答。
“厨房还剩很多食材，”及川说，“如果你不介意它们已经没那么新鲜的话。”
“不介意。”牛岛说。
及川让牛岛在外面等，他不打算只做简单的意面，那样会显得很没诚意。餐厅的新菜单是上周推出的，除了惯常的月度更新外，还多了一道神秘的入夏小食。
说是小食，其实也不过改良版的tapas。及川放弃了传统意义上一组tapas必不可少的腌橄榄和法棍，将干酪、烤蔬菜和去壳红虾用牙签串联，再覆上薄薄一层伊比利亚火腿，这时候如果淋上一勺黑松露酱，那将是完美中的完美。
黑松露酱并不是普通的黑松露酱。及川用熬化的黄油代替了原本的橄榄油，加入迷迭香和蒜片降低黏腻的口感，最后做出的黑松露酱便多了一份让人眼前一亮的柔润和鲜甜。
牛岛一口便吃出来黑松露酱用的是黄油，他有些诧异地看向及川，想说的话到嘴边又咽回去。
“怎么了？”及川看到了牛岛的反应。
“用黄油做的黑松露酱还是第一次吃到，”牛岛坦白道，“很惊艳，而且黄油会凝固，重新加热后的香味更浓郁了。”
“什么嘛，”及川瞪大双眼，随后又用略带抱怨的语气说，“之前来吃饭明明只会问主厨是谁……”
“你知道？”牛岛疑惑，“我很少在用餐时间看到你，还以为你不在。”
“我是老板诶，”及川撇了撇嘴，“而且我在的时候你也没问我啊。”
“你在的时候……”牛岛似乎回忆起什么，“我知道了，这样一来一切都说得通了。”
及川被绕得云里雾里，他往嘴里送了一颗炸虾球，色泽金黄、外皮酥脆，绵密的士豆泥包裹着滚烫拉丝的芝士流心，一口下去便能……
被烫个半死。
及川几乎是立刻把虾球吐了出来。舌头被烫的地方有一种与周围格格不入的麻痹感，他想给自己倒一杯凉水，但水壶在牛岛手边。
牛岛把自己的水杯推到及川面前，还顺带补充了一句 “没喝过”。
凉水的缓解是暂时的，及川起身去厨房接了一桶冰，再拿出一个干净的杯子重新递给牛岛。
这样来回操作了好一会儿，被遗弃的虾球由热变冷，芝士落在餐盘上凝固成一道扭曲的形状，及川还是第一次觉得自己做出的食物这么丑。
“色香味俱全”短短五个宇，对一名厨师来说，是不需加入任何修饰的最高评价。
及川从日本到法国，再到阿根延，遇到过无数自称是当地影响力最大的美食评论家。他们能将一道菜夸得天花乱坠，也能将一道菜贬得一文不值。
“黑松露酱里的黄油不会马上抵达底部的面包片，传统橄榄油的口感略微生涩，搭配干酪的话恰到好处，”牛岛说到这停顿了一下，“但如果是黄油，可以把干酪换成更清爽一点的小番茄片，这样从上到下就是由浓转淡，当食客们以为要就此收尾时，黄油已经渗透面包片表层，浓郁的奶香会再次回笼，与最初黑松露酱里被中和的奶香味不同，黄油与面包才是天生一对。”
及川愣在了一旁，这样面面俱到的评价他只在老师那听过。
啊不，及川想起来了，还有一个在SNS上特别活跃的账号。店里每推出一次新菜品，账号的主人都会出一期新的点评合集，及川曾经一度以为那是餐厅经理花钱雇的水军，但他没有证据。
“你等我一下……”及川说着便快速进了厨房。
几分钟后及川重新出现在牛岛面前，手里拿着一份新做的tapas。
“干酪换成了小番茄片，”及川把盘子递给牛岛，“还有面包……我也稍微加工了一下。”
牛岛接过尝了一口，这一口相比之前更是锦上添花。及川把面包放进平底锅中煎至一面微微金黄，在整体不会薄脆易碎的同时，还防止了被番茄汁浸湿的风险——拖泥带水可是tapas的大忌。
“无话可说，”牛岛几乎是脱口而出，紧接着他又补充道，“我的意思是……很完美。”
“太好了，”及川松了一口气，“之前一直忽略了干酪的问题，经理也觉得味道很奇怪，但他可说不出来你刚才的那些话。”
“我也不是专业的，”牛岛说，“但各种食材间的碰撞很有意思。”
“那你怎么去当了消防员？”及川下意识地问。
“咳……”牛岛呛了一下，他没料到及川会这么问，“料理不太适合我。”
“噢——”及川眼尖地捕捉到牛岛脸上一闪而过的尴尬，“会吃不会做。”
牛岛没有反驳，他有些笨重地点了点头，把面前仅剩一颗的炸虾球送进嘴里，就算是最普通的炸虾球，也被及川做得层次分明。
他早该想到及川就是主厨的。那几次在用餐时见到及川，之所以没问主厨是谁，是因为他能明显尝出菜的味道和平时有微妙的差别，并非不好吃，而是缺了点调味间的平衡，这往往是做一道菜时最难把握的部分。
“我没有做菜的天赋，”牛岛承认道，“但是你有。”
“天赋？”及川很久没听过这个词了，觉得有些稀奇，“你怎么确定我不是努力了很久才有今天这个手艺的？”
“……”牛岛先是一愣，随后有些懊恼，“抱歉，因为你太游刃有余了，我便想当然认为是这样。”
“就像你在得出黄油和面包才是天生一对的结论前，一定尝试过用各种植物油去搭配面包，但那实在行不通，”及川认真说，“我在完成现在这些食谱前，也曾经将迷迭香和薄荷混进过猪油里，你不会想知道那味道有多恶心的。”
桌上还剩最后一个青口贝肉的tapas，及川把它推向牛岛，然后起身收走了其余的空盘子。
“我可以洗碗……”牛岛觉得自己得做点什么。
“但你有没有想过，”及川看向牛岛，“它们和洗碗机更配一点？”
好吧，就当是救出猫咪的奖励。
02.甜柠檬的宇宙
老板们热衷于把店铺地址选在人流量相对密集的区域，毕竟民以食为天，就算饭菜味道平平，也不用担心没生意。偶尔会有TikTok上的探店网红另辟蹊径，专挑没什么人的小店下手，但如果想要因此一炮走红，及川的评价是不如倒闭。
及川朋友的餐厅开业有半年，半年时间非但没有捞回开店的成本，反而每月负向盈利，赚的就是一个“下基层体验生活之艰辛”。当初及川见他在卡里罗创业，便劝他一定要租海边商圈的店铺，贵是贵，但回本快。他偏不信邪，说绝不凑热闹，坚信“宁静方能致远”，及川问他从哪里学来的这话，他一脸得意，吹吹鼻子，说是那个中华小当家里的当家说的。
狗屁咧，及川白眼翻到天上去。他眼见着这个没脑子的阿根廷人就要倾家荡产，只好抱着救人一命胜造七级浮屠的决心向经理请假一周。经理哭得梨花带雨，说没有及川的Blue Hill就像一盘散沙，顾客该要少一大半了。
“打住——”及川差点尖叫，“我会认真考虑在餐厅增加情景剧表演服务。”
“嗯？”经理表情微变，“这个演员应该不是说的我吧？”
及川懒得回答，他挥挥手不带走一片云彩，离开得相当潇洒。
牛岛会把每年仅有的几天不被打扰的假期安排在夏季。他在第一年去了马德普拉塔，原本以为会在那里度过一段愉快的时光，但最后留在记忆里的只有浑浊的海水和人满为患的沙滩。后来他将度假地点改为卡里罗，同样是海滨城市，这里靠海的木屋显然更吸引他。
牛岛在卡里罗还有一件必做的事就是精心挑选出这里一年来新增的餐厅亦或是街边排挡。在他看来食物最能代表一座城市，他期待每一次假期，新颖的食物总能让他对这里保持长久的热情。
SNS推送了新的推文，牛岛顺手点进去，特别关心的分组下有且仅有一个叫“Sweet Tooru”的私人账号在刚刚分享了一则内容。

牛岛发誓自己没有跟踪人的癖好，老实说他和及川已经有一阵子没联系了。及川那只安哥拉猫不仅脾气不好，智商也不高，火灾被救后没多久又因为把自己反锁在家，成为了圣瑟西消防站“最不想再见的猫猫狗狗排行榜”第一名。
撬窗把猫捞出来的又是牛岛。及川开玩笑说他第一次进别人家就不走正门，牛岛也不是什么省油的灯，跟消防站的人混久了，诨话多少会说两句。再加上面前是他唯一钟爱（指厨艺）的主厨，这脑子一趟赶不上嘴皮，话说完十秒才意识到那气氛有多尴尬。
“这次走了后门，下次就走正门。”
你管那八层楼的窗户叫后门啊？及川被他说得眼神都不知道往哪放，想把他怀里的猫抱走结果又被“哐哐”一顿乱抓。这猫受了点惊那是真六亲不认，只认牛岛身上那点火星子的味道，缩在他怀里还不忘踩奶，硬生生给人胸肌踩得青一块紫一块。
再然后就是现在了。牛岛的行动难得跟不上想法，他还捏着手机看及川发的一颗柠檬的自拍，思绪早已经飞到两个街区外的Sweet Lemon了。
好吧，牛岛又想，这是一家新开的餐厅（也没有很新），虽然不知道及川在那里干什么，但及川会去的店一定不差，值得一试。这种心理暗示可持续的时间不长，刚好够牛岛不疾不徐地推开那扇挂满风铃的木质小门。
“欢迎光临——”
前来接待的服务生顶着颗橘色毛栗头，一双水灵的眼睛盯得牛岛脑海中浮现出四个大字：热、情、似、火。只见他眼疾手快地拉开窗边的座位，随后立刻毕恭毕敬地向牛岛递上了一份菜单。
牛岛退半步的动作慢了一拍，他有些懊恼，觉得自己被人牵着鼻子走了。刚才一进餐厅他就发现这里除了自己便没有别的顾客，但一直以来的教养又不允许他做出转身离开的动作。深思熟虑只需要半秒钟，牛岛不露声色地坐下，权当自己此刻在体验一种很新的东西。
眼前的菜名牛岛都不陌生，大多是传统西班牙菜，中规中矩没什么特色。翻页时牛岛没抱太多期待，他知道餐厅没什么生意，地理位置的劣势加上这几分钟的亲身感受，想必老板也没心思研究新的菜谱。

这是牛岛将菜单翻页后看到的第一句话。
夸张的语气，毫无审美的爆炸字体，都让牛岛后悔刚才做了一次有素质的体面人。
“一份油焖鸭胸，”牛岛吃力地念着花里胡哨的菜名，“呃，正常版。”
“正常版？”服务生语气失落，“您真的不考虑尝试一下我们今天刚推出的特别版吗？”
“特别在哪里？”牛岛问，“你们的菜单上没有做任何说明。”
“唔，”服务生有些为难，“主厨先生将一整块鸭胸从中间……”
“小翔阳——”
一道洪亮的声音传来，这声音牛岛再熟悉不过了。
他不难想起一小时前刚看过的那张照片，仔细回忆，及川拿柠檬的那只手戴着手套，他早该想到及川是在后厨的。
“啊啊啊他人呢——”及川气冲冲地出现，在看见牛岛时明显愣了一下，语气也缓和许多，“你怎么在这？”
“我来度假。”牛岛如实回答。
“及川先生！”服务生仿佛抓住救命稻草一般火速奔向及川，“油焖鸭胸特别版到底特别在哪啊！”
及川不用想就知道店里唯一的服务生要被刁钻的顾客吓死了。
他让日向去一旁休息，说反正这个点餐厅也不会有几个活人。
“你明知道菜谱是秘密，”及川对牛岛不太客气，“干嘛还要为难一个服务生？”
“是我的疏忽，”牛岛承认道，“这份菜单是你设计的？我是说这个……视觉效果。”
“当然不是了，”及川反驳道，“是这里没品的老板设计的。”
“噢，”牛岛放下心，“我刚才点了一份油焖鸭胸正……特别版。”
“特别版？”及川掰着手指数了数需要的食材，“还缺两种食材，不过我可以换换，但我也是第一次这么做，你要是觉得不放心我就还是做正常版好了。”
“没关系，”牛岛紧接着又问，“换掉食材后是新菜吗？”
“是啊，”及川说，“要试试吗？”
牛岛没有立刻回答，他知道及川在试探他。
面前这个人刚才还掷地有声地说菜谱是餐厅的生命，此刻却又问他要不要试试新菜。
“我能尝出你新换的食材。”牛岛仍然不回答。
“所以呢？”及川装傻。
“不怕我把秘密告诉别人吗？”牛岛显然不会这样做，但他想知道及川的态度。
“那就算我倒霉呗，”及川坦然道，“菜单上换一道菜也不费什么功夫。”
牛岛在心里叹了口气。跟及川周旋不是件容易的事，虽然早就做好了率先妥协的准备，但在滴水不漏的及川面前，他还是有些气馁。
“试试吧，”牛岛说，“你的新菜。”
及川满意地回到后厨。
烤箱计时器终于归零，清脆的“叮”声响起后，及川戴着手套小心翼翼地将烤盘取出，沁人的香味扑鼻而来。
海盐、香草碎和黑胡椒腌制过的鸭胸完全浸泡在金灿灿的鸭油里，加入及川独家的秘制混合香料，低温慢烤八小时。最后从一整块鸭胸中间将其横向剖开但不切断，夹层中加入改变味觉层次的辛辣辅料，放入锅中煎至鸭皮金黄，捞起至土豆泥垫底的摆盘中，淋上薄荷碎，搭配几粒可口的小番茄，一道全新的油焖鸭胸便完成。
牛岛无法从这道菜的外表去辨别它与自己以往吃过的有何区别。鸭皮包裹着几乎可以抿化的鸭肉，一刀下去层次分明，两片鸭肉间的食材用肉眼看不出，吃进嘴里先是鸭油香气贯穿口腔，软烂的肉质口感与土豆泥类似，却是两种完全不同的风味，一种是浓烈的咸香，一种是淡爽的清香。
夹层的辅料原来是混合了巴西椒与少量柠檬果肉。温和的辣度不会刺激到味觉神经，香水柠檬没有酸味，反而增添一股甜鲜，让人顿时口舌生津。
从未见过的食材搭配让牛岛不禁感叹及川是天生的创造家。与墨西哥辣酱那种腻人的甜味不同，水果香气是天然不造作的，混合在辣椒中，清爽程度能与其相媲美的只有中国的小米椒蘸料。
“你说句话呀。”及川见牛岛发呆，催促道。
“我在思考另一种调料，”牛岛说，“香水柠檬不酸，但夹层的辅料中有另一种酸甜的味道。”
“很简单啊，”及川得意，“怎么连这个都尝不出来？”
“是我忽略了什么常见的食材吗？”牛岛问。
“不告诉你，”及川吐了吐舌，“我还想让这个秘密维持的时间长一点呢。”
牛岛脑海中闪过一个念头，但他不确定那是否正确。
“Tooru——”餐厅老板回来得不是时候，“我给你买了市场上能找出来的十一种不同品种的柠檬，你就别惦记你那该死的苹果醋了，没有人爱喝那玩意儿！”
及川额头青筋直跳，想要杀一个人的眼神是藏不住的。老板见状不妙立刻开溜，购物袋里的柠檬咕噜噜滚落在桌上，世界又安静了下来。
“及川，”牛岛说，“我爱喝苹果醋。”
“噗……”及川哪料到牛岛会这么直接，“不用为了安慰我说这种话啊，他们南美人本来就不喜欢酸味占大半的酸甜口。”
“那仅仅是指苹果醋作为一种饮料而言，”牛岛说，“很抱歉你的秘密没有维持太久，苹果醋作为调味品的作用的确很容易被忽略，事实上它会让一道菜的完成度更高。”
及川没有理会牛岛的评价，他只注意到牛岛说自己喜欢喝苹果醋。
“你真的喜欢喝苹果醋？”及川问得没头没尾。
“我会定期去亚洲超市买一些放在家里，”牛岛说，“有些口味是很难改变的。”
“那你为什么会来这么远的地方生活？”及川没意识到自己的问题有些越界，“我花了整整三年时间才适应他们那难吃的橄榄酱，我想不明白怎么会有这种东西。”
牛岛没来得及回答及川的问题便先不小心笑出了声，被狠狠瞪一眼也丝毫不在意。他说几年前在布市旅游时被卷进一场混乱的救援，阴差阳错救下不少当地的居民。
“然后你就这么留下来了？”及川不敢相信。
“这是其中一个原因，”牛岛说，“小时候难免有当大英雄的梦想，父母提供的环境过于安稳，在叛逆期做出的决定是需要花费时间来作为代价的。很多时候我都不愿意承认自己是固执的，但还好现在的结果并不差。”
及川看着牛岛不说话。他很羡慕牛岛能平静地讲出这些，就跟之前牛岛说他有做菜的天赋一样。突如其来的变故会让及川陷入瞬间的恐慌，虽然他能够在短时间内迅速调整好状态，但也做不到像牛岛这样毫无负担地轻松活着。
“我还做了份失败的甜点。”及川说。
“从你口中听到失败两个字还有点新奇。”
“是吗，”及川自顾自地说，“我保证这一定会是你吃过的卖相最丑的樱桃布丁。”
“你不妨端出来让我看看，”牛岛说，“你只说卖相，却不提它的味道，那说明还有提升的空间。”
及川心里升起一股莫名的烦躁，他发现牛岛总能看穿自己。
黄油鸡蛋牛奶搅拌均匀，放入的适量砂糖是网友们口中的致死量，及川小心翼翼将烤盘拿出来的那一刻差点被吓到重新塞回去。
刚才还沉于碗底的樱桃在高温作用下全部浮上表面，及川不太好意思把布丁端出去，虽然他知道牛岛并不会对此发表什么意见。

牛岛面露难色，他确实没料到及川口中的卖相不好是如此不好。好在他及时挖下一块布丁送进自己嘴里，随之而来的满足感立刻占据全身，果然对于牛岛来说，只有味蕾上的冲击才是最直击心灵的。
“我就知道它在味道上不会让人失望。”牛岛感慨。
“看吧，”及川睨了牛岛一眼，“你只夸味道，却不提卖相，那说明它看上去的确有够糟糕的。”
牛岛一下噎住，这人怎么这么记仇的，还搞以牙还牙这套。
“卖相从来都不是大问题，”牛岛解释道，“你完全可以在底部加一层焦糖，将樱桃放在上面，提前用烤箱定好型，再加入搅拌均匀的布丁液，这样一来樱桃会完美隐藏于内部，焦糖的甜度也能恰好被酸味中和掉。”
及川没想到还能这样，他担心如果再加一层焦糖，整个布丁的口味会变得偏甜。
“那你就再在表面点缀两颗刚成熟的樱桃，”牛岛说，“这样不仅卖相好了，口味也更丰富了。”
“是个办法，”及川点头道，“不过我还是想问……你真的一点都不会料理吗？”
“虽然我已经向你说过了，”牛岛坦白，“但我的确只是个理论知识丰富的料理白痴，”
“就在刚刚——”及川忽然两眼放光，“你的话让我有了新的灵感！”
“我的话？”牛岛疑惑，“我说我是料理白痴那一句吗？”
“笨蛋！当然不是了！”及川立刻反驳，“你说把樱桃固定在底部，我不是一早就让老板去买柠檬了吗？柠檬布丁是这一季度的新甜品，我可以把它们做成柠檬酱放在碗底——”
柠檬酱？牛岛没想到及川会想用真的柠檬去制作食物。
市面上大多数柠檬味的食物都是加入食品添加剂制作而成，真正用柠檬的少之又少。一是因为柠檬本身的味道偏酸，就算现在可以人工干预大大降低它们的酸度，但一直以来的料理习惯还是会让很多人忘掉这一点。二是柠檬本身的成本远远高于廉价的食品添加剂，再加上要先将柠檬做成果酱，这又是一笔额外的人工费用，对于商人来说是完全不必要的存在。
而牛岛是个不折不扣的现实主义者。
他想告诉及川这样做会让成本高出不少，但话到嘴边又咽了回去。
“新甜品的名字叫什么？”牛岛问及川。
“柠檬柠檬……”及川来回念着这两个字，“叫什么好呢……”
牛岛决定用自己粉丝众多的SNS账号推荐这间叫Sweet Lemon的餐厅，就在目光对上及川的那一刻。
“对了！”及川的声音明亮又澄澈，“叫甜柠檬的宇宙吧！”
03.小猫咪的爱和生命里的呼吸
Sweet Lemon从门可罗雀到老板又多招两名服务生只花了短短三天时间，及川那份甜柠檬宇宙的配方顺理成章变为好友餐厅重获新生的贺礼，条件是樱桃布丁里一定要加苹果醋。
圣瑟西消防站的消防员们逐渐成为Blue Hill的常客，经理曾一度怀疑这其中存在什么非正常交易。每当他看见一手能拎两个自己的人走进店里，都会双手捂住胸口在心中默念一句“上帝保佑他们不是来闹事的”。
拜托，一年能从树上和水里救下一百只猫猫狗狗的人怎么会是坏蛋，更何况及川家那只安哥拉猫一猫就占了人家五十分之一的份额。
牛岛不值班时几乎都会选择在Blue Hill解决自己的晚餐，虽然消防站提供工作餐，但半生不熟的通心粉和过量的番茄酱会让这一天都变得相当糟糕。同事偶尔会和他一起前往Blue Hill，他们说这里的简餐是整条街上味道最好的，牛岛很乐意听到这样的评价。
及川仍然长时间待在后厨，经理让他适当为自己安排一些放松的时间，他基本左耳进右耳出。他说想要把一间餐厅经营好，主厨是一定不能偷懒的，而且他愿意将时间投入到料理中，是因为他想要将源源不断的灵感变为现实，这期间不能有任何的耽搁。
“如果有一天我们不再推出新菜单了，”及川对经理说，“那就说明我们快完蛋啦！”
“你这张嘴能盼点好的吗？”经理气急败坏。
“我只是做了这样一个假设，”及川说，“至少在我还热爱这个行业时，能保证不拖欠你的报酬。”
“我在意的是这个吗？”经理悄悄翻了个白眼，“好吧虽然也很在意，但显然圣瑟西消防站那群人已经将Blue Hill当成了他们的休息室。”
“这不好吗？”及川问道，“你都不知道整个街区的居民有多爱戴他们。”
“我是说——”经理看着及川天真的眼神，忽然觉得自己在多嘴，“你自己体会去吧！”
“什么呀？”及川看着经理闷闷不乐地走掉，“你知不知道说话说一半寿命少一万啊！”
经理当然假装听不见及川的嚷嚷，他才不会告诉及川每次消防站的人来店里都会问一句老板在不在后厨。
没日没夜研究新菜的后果是病倒。及川一开始并没太在意身体的不适，他只觉得是自己没睡好，所以起床后才会觉得脑袋昏沉。经理不知道吃错什么药，这天早早就到了店里，他见及川一副没睡醒的样子，想让他再休息会儿，哪知道一碰及川就被黏了一手冷汗。
“怎么身上这么凉啊？”经理又摸摸及川的额头，这要放在平时是一定会被揍的，“老天爷，你知道自己现在烫得像个火球吗？”
“火球？”及川意识有些涣散，“什么火球？”
“就是精灵宝可梦里喷火龙喷的火球，”经理料他现在说什么及川都听不进去，于是开始信口胡诌，“所以你现在要被它喷回家了，知道吗？”
“啊？”及川愣了一下，“为什么要回家啊？”
经理实在受不了及川再十万个为什么，他给采购的店员打了电话，告诉他今天及川不会到店，然后再磕磕绊绊地把病号扔回了家，并贴心地在床头放好了感冒药和一张便利条。
「劝你乖乖把药吃了！」
这药吃没吃经理是无从知晓了，他只知道圣瑟西消防站今天又来Blue Hill搞团建（不是真的搞团建），为首那个以前就爱独自来餐厅的面瘫大块头依旧问他老板在不在。
“他今天休息。”这话也没错，生病了在家躺着怎么不算休息呢。
“好吧，要三份简餐，”牛岛说，“他明天也休息吗？”
“我不确定，”经理被牛岛盯得有点紧张，“可能吧。”
牛岛向经理道谢后便不再打扰他工作，午餐后难得没什么突发事件，日子悠闲得就像偷来的。由于职业特殊性，消防站的人都没有午休的习惯，值班室里空调开得很足，牛岛用手机刷着SNS，但没什么值得阅读的内容。一旁前辈们说要去体能训练室，他看了看最近一条推文还停留在三天前的关注账号，摁灭了屏幕，也起身往外走。
接线处整个下午就收到两通电话，一通是小孩在家误拨，另一通是宠物狗掉进了河里。牛岛从浴室出来后发现手机上有未接来电，及川十分钟前打来的，他当即回拨过去，嘟声响了很久才接通。
听筒里传来窸窸窣窣的摩擦声，牛岛有些疑惑地叫了及川的名字，却没有收到任何回应。但他以为是及川信号不好准备挂断重新拨过去时，忽然听见一声熟悉的猫叫。
Vabo叫的时候尾音会下坠，和其他活泼的猫咪不同，它的叫声给人一种相当慵懒的感觉。牛岛试着喊了Vabo的名字，听筒里顿时又传来几声急切的叫声。
牛岛总觉得哪里不对劲，就算猫咪自己误碰到手机，那及川怎么会一点反应都没有。他立刻看了眼屏幕，还没到Blue Hill打烊的时间，跟室友说明情况后便套了件衣服出门。
经理以为自己工作一天累花了眼，要不怎么会在晚餐时间后又看见臭脸大块头呢。他礼貌地朝牛岛打了招呼，问他是不是有什么东西落在店里了。
“不是，”牛岛说，“我知道这很冒昧，但我好像联系不上及川了。”
“他……”经理犹豫着开口，“你给他打电话了？”
“他先给我打了电话，”牛岛回忆道，“我不确定是不是他本人，总之我回电话过去时是他的猫接的电话，我没有听见他的声音。”
“哎你等等，”经理有些懵，“你说他的猫接了电话？并且有可能那个打给你的电话也是猫咪所为？”
“听上去很离谱，”牛岛说，“但的确如此。”
见了鬼了，经理想。他拿出手机拨通及川的电话，没人接，重复五次，依旧没人接。
“……”经理觉得这事蹊跷，“你再用你的电话给他打一次。”
“好吧，”牛岛说，“但不一定能……”
“喂……？”及川的声音听上去就像三天没喝水。
“及川，”牛岛察觉到不对劲，“你生病了吗？”
“可能吧……”及川回答得迷迷糊糊，“我也不知道。”
“你在家吗？”牛岛问。
“嗯，”及川说，“是你啊……有事吗？”
“别睡着了，”牛岛说，“等我们过来。”
经理目瞪口呆地看牛岛挂了电话，他觉得自己可能到死也想不明白及川为什么不接他电话。
“要麻烦你带我去他家了。“牛岛打断经理的胡思乱想。
“不是，”经理无语，“餐厅还没打烊呢。”
“那就……”牛岛短暂思索了一下，“你可以给我他家的地址吗？”
“呀你真是！”经理发誓自己没见过这么执着的人，“你在门口等我一下。”
经理到底还是放心不下让牛岛独自前往及川的家，他跟餐厅前台的服务生打了招呼，说自己出去一下很快就回，这才带着牛岛敲开及川的家门。
及川看到两人先是愣了一下，猫咪从他身后走到牛岛脚边，用脸蹭了蹭牛岛的小腿。一旁的经理实在震惊于眼前的画面，他不知道及川这只猫还能有这么黏一个人的时候。
“你们先进来吧。”及川说。
“我就不了，”经理立刻回答，“我就是把他送过来，我还得回去关店呢。”
“今天店里没什么事吧？”及川问。
“没事，”经理说，“你好好休息，我先走了。”
牛岛还站在门边，他蹲下抱起猫咪，然后看向了及川。
“打扰了。”牛岛说。
“打电话是有事吗？”及川将门关上。
“你的猫大概不小心碰到手机，”牛岛说，“然后电话拨到我这里。”
“……”及川沉默了一下，“我一觉睡到刚才，它可能以为我出什么事了，只是我没想到电话会打到你那。”
“前辈们都觉得它脾气差，”牛岛向及川坦白，“但它似乎很喜欢我，前两次救它出来，它只让我抱它。”
“是啊，”及川附和道，“它连我都不让抱，还以为不喜欢我呢，今天看来也不是那么回事嘛。”
及川一回到客厅就上沙发缩成一团，他不舒服时经常会这样，这个姿势能让他有安全感。猫咪也从牛岛臂中逃走，顺势窝进及川怀里。
“我要怠慢你啦……”及川有气无力地对牛岛说，“厨房里有水，你可能要自己倒一下。”
“你回卧室躺着会不会舒服点？”牛岛还站在原地没动，“你从早上到现在都没吃东西吗？”
“也没有很饿……”及川话还没说完，肚子就叫了一声，“好吧，我饿了。”
“我看看冰箱里有什么，”牛岛这才朝厨房走去，“不过我能力有限。”
“你不是不会做饭嘛，”及川说，“我就说你理论知识这么丰富怎么可能一点也不会做。”
“我没骗你，”牛岛的声音从厨房传来，及川听得有些不真切，“你要是觉得不好吃也别笑我。”
及川没再回答牛岛，随之而来的是厨房里抽油烟机的动静和摁下电饭煲的“咔哒”声。
做饭对牛岛来说不是件容易的事，他的刀工不太熟练，洋葱和蘑菇切得歪歪扭扭，还好冰箱里的牛肉是切好的，他只需要先将牛肉翻炒至八分熟盛出，放入蒜瓣炒出香味后再加入洋葱炒至透明。最后几步的顺序牛岛有些忘了，总之他把蘑菇和牛肉一股脑倒进了锅里，再凭感觉加入了几勺红酒，当然还有番茄酱、蜂蜜之类的调味料，盖上盖小火炖10-20分钟左右，香味便布满整间屋子。
这是牛岛唯一会做的菜，他把米饭盛到盘里，再从锅中舀了两大勺煮好的浇头，端到客厅时及川又睡了过去，只留下猫咪在一旁舔着自己的毛。
牛岛想叫醒及川，但又觉得这样做不好。他原路返回将盖饭放回到餐桌，这时及川恰好寻着香味睁开眼睛。
“我以为你还要睡一会儿。”
“这也太香了吧？”及川吸吸鼻子使劲闻了闻，“你还说你不会做饭！”
“我只会做这个，”牛岛说，“不是什么精致的料理，我连洋葱都切不好。”
“你把那盒切好的牛肉炒了吗？”及川踩着拖鞋慢吞吞地挪到餐桌前，“黑胡椒、番茄酱……还有红酒，你做了林氏盖饭？！”
及川的反应是牛岛没料到的。记忆中林氏盖饭是小时候少有几次生病时父亲做给自己吃的，说什么吃完就会立刻恢复。牛岛曾对此深信不疑，因为他总是在吃完林氏盖饭的第二天就有所好转。
“嗯，”牛岛说，“没想到你家里有黑酱，我以为打开柜子只会看到西式调料。”
“喂喂……”及川不满道，“你这是歧视，我再怎么做西餐，胃也还是日本胃。”
“我记住了，”牛岛笑着说，“锅里还有一点没盛完，我给你放进保鲜盒吧。”
“你不吃吗？”及川问。
“我吃过了，”牛岛回答，“你的身体明早不一定能完全恢复，你还需要吃早餐。”
“你等下要走？”及川想也没想就问出口，“我的意思是……你还要回消防站，今晚辛苦你了。”
餐厅忽然安静下来。
及川又往自己嘴里送了一口饭，牛岛若有所思地看着他，眼神里有说不清道不明的东西。
“我请了假。”牛岛说。
“今天没轮到你值班啊。”及川装傻。
“嗯，”牛岛不拆穿，“我好像也有点饿了。”
“你还说给我当早餐，”及川嘟囔，“现在自己又要吃掉。”
“我再给你做，”牛岛说，“但早餐我只会简单的三明治。”
“那你要几点赶回消防站啊……”及川问。
“七点前吧，”牛岛答，“明天你到店里去吗？”
“这取决于你要不要去店里用晚餐。”及川说。
“不出意外的话，当然会去。”牛岛说。
及川当然不需要自己洗碗，他原本想让牛岛把餐具全部扔进洗碗机，但牛岛说只有几个盘子，不用这么大费周章。
《朱莉与朱莉娅》是及川在牛岛洗碗时随手点开的电影，他收藏了很多与料理相关的影片，无聊时会随机挑选一部来打发时间。
生病时的精力到底不如平时，电影缓慢的叙事节奏惹得及川再次昏昏欲睡。牛岛索性让及川倒在自己肩上，面前屏幕上的女人赶在早市时去抢一块最新鲜的牛脊肉，这完全是及川会做出来的事。
牛岛没有立刻关掉影片，及川的法式樱桃布丁原来在这里面也出现了。女主人公在厨房认真享受着烹饪带来的乐趣，她的丈夫就在一旁，写信给友人，一字一句用爱描述着她的动作。
牛岛脑海中有了一些及川做菜时的画面，如果可以，他当然也愿意花整整一个下午的时间，将这些全部记录下来。当然，这只是一个小小的愿望。
及川第二天醒来时牛岛已经离开了。尽管他每天自然醒的时间不会超过七点，但这对牛岛来说还是太晚。烤箱的保温灯还亮着，及川以为里面放着牛岛做好的三明治。事实上当他打开烤箱时，一股浓郁的奶香味溢出，那是牛岛烤的黄油面包片。
餐桌上放着一杯还没加热的牛奶，下面压着一张字条。牛岛说牛奶提前加热的话会冷掉，猫咪已经喂过食，还有，希望你的感冒症状有所好转，也希望你度过愉快的一天。
及川承认他有那么一瞬间是想要跟写下这些内容的人共度余生的。他给牛岛发去信息：「你在我睡着后看完了那部电影吗？」
牛岛过了会儿才回复，他说看完了，并且很赞同女主人公对梦想和爱的解释。
「保罗向茱莉娅的告白也不错吧？」
「这应该是你睡着后的内容。」
「可我没说过我是第一次看这部电影呀？」
「我原本没打算这么早就告诉你的，我在从你家回消防站的路上将那句话练习了好几次。」

及川推开门把那块“Closed”的牌子换掉，初夏的阳光正好透过紫藤花落在脚下，细碎的光点星星一般洒在木质的台阶上，一闪一闪的。
是恋爱的季节了。
