Over the years of putting our own children to sleep, keeping them asleep, and counseling thousands of other moms and dads on various styles of nighttime parenting, here are some time-tested, proven attitudes and techniques for getting baby to sleep. Cuddling your sweetie or letting her drift off to dreamland in a swing may feel warm and cozy, but if she wakes up later on, she may fuss when she realizes that you (or the swing) are no longer there. As long as your little one seems happy and well-rested most of the time, don't worry about your baby's sleep schedule, patterns and habits, especially in the beginning. Things have a way of getting easier and smoother as you and your baby get used to your new life together. Learn Your Baby’s Sleep Cues
You may find that different sleeping arrangements work at different times. Being inventive and focusing on how you and your family can get the most sleep tonight can help. If she wakes very early from her last nap of the day, for instance, consider putting her to bed a little earlier to make up for the lost shut-eye. Some babies naturally need less sleep than others. However, a baby who is continually sleepy and doesn’t wake up for feeds could be ill. Give Plenty Of Support
There’ll be a well-meaning someone or other who’ll tell you that their little one slept through at 12 weeks after introducing a spoon of baby rice at bedtime and you’ll start to wonder if there’s any merit in these old fashioned ways. If you’ve tried to settle your newborn to sleep in their cot and haven't had any luck after 10-15 minutes, settle them all the way to sleep in your arms and try again next time. This will prevent them from becoming overtired, as an overtired baby will definitely struggle to fall asleep. This is a great time to create a few bedtime habits.
